…coffee you drank at 5pm” I thought to myself last night while lying wide awake at 11pm.
I’ll be honest - I didn’t think I’d manage to write a July post.
Moving house with a 13 month old is no piece of cake I tell you 😅 I haven’t had much time or inspiration to think of something I felt was worth filling your precious inbox space with.
Until I gave myself that stern talking to last night - and suddenly thought maybe I’m not the only one who needs to pause and check in.
When we feel overwhelmed by our days we often reach to coping strategies that make our days even more overwhelming.
Yes coffee sweetens my days, brightens up dull moments and gives me the energy to get through bedtime routines with a lively toddler.
But it also adds to my feelings of tension and anxiety, and it doesn’t help me get the sleep that I need to get through this time gracefully.
So I’ll be cutting back to one coffee a day again (or maybe two as long as they’re both before 12pm 😂).
What coping strategies aren’t helping you right now?
Are you also struggling with sleep? Perhaps it’s not coffee that’s your problem but one of these other ‘coping’ tools that can backfire:
Scrolling on your phone late at night
Answering emails in the evening
Late night tv
Late night snacking (especially snacks low in protein and fibre)
Alcohol
Avoiding exercise or daily movement
(You can read more about how to get better sleep by clicking the two links below).
Or maybe your problem is another one entirely. The point is - use this email as a reminder to check in with yourself on whether your habits are truly helping.
Sending love (and no references or pictures because moving chaos),
Marie
